19th August - Awesome day .... in Monterey

It really was 'Awesome' as they say over here. We started the day with a great little continental breakfast in our room at the Monterey Bay Inn before heading back down Cannery Row to the world famous Aquarium, converted from one of the old Cannery plants into the most wonderful Aquarium with some fantastic exhibits. We really enjoyed seeing the penguins and the jelly fish were incredible.

We had a bit of lunch and afterward I got talking to one of the staff who convinced me we should try one of Whale watch tours. Back at the hotel Helen booked up on line to one of the tour companies - Monterey Bay Princess Whale Watching Tours, down at Old Fishermans Wharf. We booked on the 3.30pm trip out, gave us time to walk down there and get signed in, paying a bit extra at the door to sit on the top deck. We were both a bit sceptical, thinking we may see one single whale way in the distance but how we were wrong. Not far out we met up with at least ten Humpback Whales having a feeding frenzy surrounded by Seals and other wildlife. Incredible afternoon that had us both smiling all the way back. I have to say worth every dollar.

Later, in the evening we dashed back to the Hotel to get the car and take a drive out to Carmel By The Sea. Helen fell in love with the place instantly, some incredible houses and we found a nice little restaurant to dine over a drink to recap the amazing day.
