22nd August - San Diego: Downtown, Old Town and Seaport

It's a 'no car' day today, no driving at all so we chose to have a lazy morning at the hotel before heading out to explore Downtown San Diego, Market Street and out to find the Top Gun Cafe, before catching the trolley (tram) up to Old Town San Diego where the original Spanish settlers came in and established their colony. On the way back we changed to the blue line and came back through the other side of the city to make it back to the hotel for swim in the rooftop pool with a relax in the hot tub. An evening stroll crossing over and up the high steps over the convention centre to wander up the Embracadero and Seaport village, to finish the day with a nice meal overlooking the harbour and marina.

At the Top Gun Cafe. Helen not so impressed, thought I was going to start singing 'You've lost that lovin' feeling' to her from the jukebox (remember the scene?).

For Will maybe? ...

Our hotel, the Omni. A bit of luxury after the Best Western ! Spot the San Diego Padres 'ball park' stadium adjoined by a walkway bridge.

View from our room on the 16th floor. The huge convention centre in the foreground and Coronado on the other side of the estuary. San Diego is a naval base strategically placed on the border with Mexico. Here's one of the Naval ships on the way out.
