Our last day in San Diego and Southern California before we catch our flight out to Phoenix tomorrow, and what a day, we managed to cram in some more fun that started with a drive North along the I5 to La Jolla ( pronounced la Hoya) for a breakfast brunch at the Cove where we found some great boutique shops for Helen before a walk along the sea front to watch the sea lions playing in the surf. It really did look like they were having fun and there were so many right on the rocks by the beach. There is even a snorkelling session where you could swim with them too.
We then took a drive back in to San Diego over the huge bridge to Coronado where we parked up and walked down to the famous Hotel del Coranado, the huge wooden colonial style hotel made famous for the scenes in 'Some Like it Hot' starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. While sat having a lemonade (cost 10 bucks - ouch!) , I had the sudden urge to swim in the Pacific Ocean before we left, so I quickly changed in to my trunks and off I went out in to the surf. Amazing power of waves, and manages to body surf in a couple of times while Helen was sunbathing on the beach well away from the water this time ha ha.
After a little more shopping we made it back to the hotel for a bit of a swim in the roof top pool, before the main event. Helen had booked tickets to watch the San Diego Padres / Boston Red Sox Baseball game - a huge event when 'ball comes to town' as they say, luckily we were able to walk across the bridge to Petco Stadium to watch. What a great evening, so much fun and atmosphere listening to the conversations in the crowd. Not so good for the Padres who lost and didn't get a single run on the board, but for us it was one of the best nights out ever. Fantastic day, and sad to leave the South West Coast it's been great 😁😁.
