26/08 - Grand Canyon South Rim viewpoints and Village

What a perfect day. To recover from yesterday's travel knowing we have some miles to cover to get to Las Vegas on Tuesday, we slept in late and had good breakfast over at the Yavapai Lodge Restaurant, before heading out to spend the day driving the 20 miles or so back and forth to the various view points from West to East across the South Rim. Helen took charge of the driving today and we started at Mather Point then Moran Point, Lipan Point (our favourite), the Tusayan Museum of Hopi Indian ruins and then Navajo Point. We also revisited Grand View on the way back to the Village. Amazing day, the photographs can't quite capture how amazing the Canyon is. The slight howl from the wind, the peaceful calmness, and taking the time to just look and savour each view.

Late afternoon we decided to buy some food and a mixer each and hop on the shuttle bus that takes you out West, restricted to cars in the summer, we fancied having a small picnic while the sun set across the Canyon. The bus was busy with other people having the same idea, they seemed to be heading to Hopi point a larger viewpoint so we got off the bus at the smaller quieter Powell point instead, where we found a great spot sitting on the edge to enjoy our meal as the sun set in peace. Hope you enjoy our pictures, just a small selection as you can imagine!
