We continued on along the Pacific Coast Highway 1 again today for the last and final leg to our next stop in San Diego where we will be spending the next three nights before flying on to Phoenix. The route down started along the fast moving but scenic Ventura Higway before passing by Malibu beach and Santa Monica with the Santa Monica hills on our left before merging onto the freeway around Los Angeles. The route I plotted around The western edge of L.A. was inevitable, and really was a white knuckle experience, I'm glad we did it, lane upon lane of fast moving traffic undertaking and overtaking, made the M25 look like a country road, but I wouldn't want to do it again. Once past this section we went down to the docks of Long Island to pass by the Queen Mary before heading on to stop at the huge Huntington Beach. The beach went on for miles and miles. We really enjoyed Huntington, so too Laguna Beach. Later in the afternoon we merged onto the I5S to take us the last 70 miles or so through rush hour traffic around San Diego. The slow moving traffic gave us chance to get a good look at the city watching the planes come in to land right overhead. Looking forward to exploring SD, Helen has booked us into a hotel close to the Gas Lamp quarter - the lively bar/restaurant area.
Ventura Highway .... so good there's a song about it by America.
Malibu beaches, and Surf school.
Two bikes vs Aston Martin. The bikes won 😀👍.
The Queen Mary at Long Island. You can go on board, now a hotel and restaurant but 40 bucks each we drove around the car park and saw it from there for free !
Huntington Beach where the Pacific Ocean came to meet Helen while she was asleep on the beach, then she had to get changed in the car later while I tried to screen her modesty Really funny. Lucky we didn't get booked for exposure.
The bay and Marina at Dana Point, before getting on the I5 south to San Diego.
That's the Pacific Coast Highway complete, a few beers and a Burrito to celebrate.
